When Deg and I met on May 7th, 2007 (yes, I know the exact date), it was love at first sight. OK really it was probably more like crush at first sight, but you get the point. We spent every possible minute together, and when we weren't, ahem, exploring each others' charms, we got to know lots about each other. One of the most disturbing things I learned about Deg was that he had voluntarily read 3 books by himself. That simply would not do!
I asked him to read The Pearl with me - it's all of 90 pages and I told him it'd help me teach it if we read it together. He grumbled and complained but agreed, and lo and behold, he liked the book! Over the course of the year, we read a good number of the books I was teaching, and he even asked if he could read one or two on his own because he didn't want to wait for me.Today, I can proudly say that Deg is a reader, even requesting books as gifts. Mwa ha ha ha!
One book series I wanted to read with him was the Harry Potter series. It took 4 1/2 years to convince him, but he finally agreed, and once he started, there was no stopping him. We read all 7 books in 2012. In 2013 (keep in mind, we're only at the end of March right now), we read all 4 books in The Uglies series and are halfway through the 3 books in The Hunger Games series. He and I are loving reading together and have found it a rewarding hobby. We love discussing what's going on and Deg loves predicting what comes next.
We are reaching a bit of a problem, though - we've read all the books that both of us want to read. We both really love young adult literature, but aren't averse to other genres. Deg loves dystopias and sci-fi. So, dear reader, what suggestions do you have for me?

My favorite scifi series is the Vorkosigan series by Louis Bujold. Very witty, excellent adventure and really stunning dialog. I may or may not borrow lines for arguments or just to sound smart.
Have you tried out the Ender's Game series? I think it would appeal to both of you. Plus, there are a lot of them, with a lot of spin-off series to go along with them. Highly recommend!
why aren't you my friend on goodreads?
