Montessori, Part 1: Montessori Madness (a brief explanation)

I am all of 35 days into the school year. Part of me is totally ready to go, on board, and back on track. I mean, I've taught before, and was pretty good at it, if I do say so myself. So this should be old hat, right? Well, then there's the other part of me. The part of me that's figuring out what the heck "Montessori" means and what that's going to do to the part of me that knows what she's doing. It's a whole new ball game. And to be real with you, I had no idea what Montessori was until I moved here and met some people who sent their kids there. And that was my exposure when I applied for this job. Needless to say, I have a long way to go. (Side note, thank you for hiring me based on this information, CMS!)

I'm in the room every day, learning on my feet as I go, seeing it as I try to live it. But many (if not all) of you, my readers, probably have no idea what Montessori even means. So I've decided to tell you about it as I figure it out. And to start this, I'm going to show you a video that's on YouTube (it's only 5:44 minutes - you can handle it) so that you get the basis that we give parents when they first walk in the building to try to figure out if they want their kids to come here. And then, based on your responses, I'll go from there. So watch and respond, if you would be so kind!
