Pageant Reflections

So, back in high school, I entered the school's pageant. And I won. You're probably thinking, "You? In a pageant?!?" Yes it's true. I had a girly moment. And I won, so ha.

Well, anyway, I got an email from the lady who's running this year's pageant, and she wants to do a blurb about all of the girls who have won Miss Hillcrest ever (keep in mind that the school is only about 16 years old). So I wrote up a little "about me" and I realized something: writing something to tell other people how cool you are really makes you realize that you are cool. So, let me share my blurb with you!

Jessica H - Miss Hillcrest 2001-2002
At the encouragement of English teacher Mrs. Sandy Bybee, Jessica entered the Miss Hillcrest pageant during her junior year, 2001-2002, as lucky contestant number 13. Regardless of her contestant number, she received the interview award as well as the Miss Hillcrest award. Jessica went on to graduate from Hillcrest High School with a 3.74 in the spring of 2003 with 6 different scholarship offers to 5 different universities in Idaho and Utah.
Jessica chose to enroll in Brigham Young University where she completed a 5 year English Education program in 4 years. While at school, she was involved in forming an anti-pornography program for students, which has been implemented widely at BYU. In her schooling, she worked one-on-one with professors researching the effects of religion on family structure and also in studying "home" as a symbol in African-American postmodern literature. She eventually emphasized in African-American literature because of this independent research. In the education program, Jessica scored in the top 5% on the Utah standardized exam given to all teachers who apply for a teaching license. She was also nominated to be her department's representative to the university.
Four weeks after Jessica's April 2007 graduation from BYU, she signed a contract to teach junior high literature at Navigator Pointe Academy, a charter school in West Jordan, Utah. She is in her second year of teaching the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. She is also certified as a CPR/First Aid/AED instructor for the American Red Cross and occasionally teaches classes for both the lay and the professional rescuer at work and in the community. Jessica was married Deg V in August 2008; they currently reside in Orem, Utah.
