- Fresh from the pediatrician's office, here are his growth stats. Coming in at a whopping 27.4 lbs (7%) and 36 1/2 inches tall (27%), DJ is making great progress. And yes, he is still skinny and not super tall, but at this point, it's a trend. Plus he's cute and totally works it, so whatever. Plus the pediatrician recommend multiple milkshakes for both calcium and calories, so I feel like that's a victory. The doctor was also blown away by how well and how much he talks. Which, by the way, is all the time. It's a good sign when the doc leaves the room grinning.
- This kid and food. He seriously eats like an old man and it's hilarious. I mean, he still eats kid food like corn dogs and Swedish fish, but nine times out of ten, it's more mature food than you'd expect a little kid to eat.The funny foods he eats these days are as follows:
- asparagus
- raw onion
- mushrooms, though he prefers them raw
- mustard (as in, just plain mustard, by itself)
- black licorice
- bell/sweet peppers
- nuts of any kind, but most especially pistachios
- oranges, peel and all
- plain lettuce
- peanut butter burritos (as in, just peanut butter in a tortilla - apparently jelly and bread are gross)
- still frozen peas and corn
- The shows we get to watch all the time:
- Prince of Egypt
- Wreck-It Ralph
- Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
- Voltron
- Star Wars (any of it - cartoons or movies)
- Phineas and Ferb
- anything with superheros or Ninja Turtles
- Good Eats (This one is my favorite of his favorites because what 3 year old wants to watch cooking? Then again, it is Alton Brown, so I feel ya, bro.)
- anything about Egypt
- Current favorite topics/activities:
- building tall towers or spaceships with blocks
- anything at all related to Egypt - he is obsessed and it's awesome
- Play-Doh
- playing pretend with other kids
- wrestling/play fighting
- swimming (he's started to be able to swim fully immersed by himself)
- playing pretend with his action figures
- bug collecting
- "treasure" collecting (rocks, acorns, noodles in the pantry - he just really likes having "treasures" in a "zip top bag")
- Slurpee runs
- talking to anyone and everyone that will say hi to him
- going to Walgreens (because he can usually talk me into getting him some licorice)
- supehero anything
- playing with friends
- hanging with his dad
- also, he is very proud of being potty trained (and frankly, so am I!)
So there are the facts. But DJ is so much more than facts. He is creative and imaginative. He is talkative and friendly. He is stubborn and dedicated. He is thoughtful and caring. He is sympathetic and loving. He is busy and involved and so much fun. I am so grateful for him in my life. I love being his mom. Happy third birthday, my sweet boy!
