Mr. DJ is One!

I'll do a post all about his birthday later, but for now, I want to do the last installment of DJ's monthly stats. (I figure once a month for 12 months is pretty dang good.) He is such a doll an we have been so blessed to have him in our home for the last year. Also, HOW IS HE ONE?!? Things I just can't handle. Oh my!

  • I'm going to start off with a list of his favorite things:
    • Favorite snack: baby cheetos
    • Favorite food: tomatoes
    • Favorite animal: doggies
    • Favorite toy: anything he can push around to help him walk and his hammer
    • Favorite time of day: bath time
    • Favorite place to sleep: sideways in mom and dad's bed
    • Favorite game: hide and seek
    • Favorite place to eat: Zupa's or Chick-Fil-A
    • Favorite activity: climbing on everything
    • Favorite book: "Star Wars 1-2-3" or "Touch and Feel Baby Animals"
    • I wish I could: chew on all the electrical cords in the house
    • I love to play with: the Covingtons and the Frehners and my cousin Ellie
    • Favorite song: "Happy" by Pharell
    • Favorite dance move: arm flail and booty drop
  • DJ is a pro at crawling and climbing. He can cruise around holding on to stuff like you wouldn't believe. He can walk, but he doesn't think he can. Right now, he's taking a few steps between things, though as you've seen in the video from the previous post, if he's distracted, he can really go for it. He's nearly there, though, and that is both happy and sad - where did my baby go?
  • In the meantime, he still walks everywhere if he has anything he can use to push around the house with. Empty box? Walking with it. Kitchen chair? There's four of those, so no need to freak out when one gets stuck in a corner. Push toy for walking? Fuggedaboutit. Cooler full of ice and soda for his birthday party? Come on, guys - give me a real challenge.
  • We had him in a high chair that attached to the table, but had to get rid of that because it was too distracting and he'd crawl out of it and onto the table. Plus, it was easier to throw food around from there. And seeing as how eating is awesome and/or required for life, we've moved him back to the regular high chair, so now he actually eats dinner.
  • He uses the word "this" all the time (though usually it sounds like "dis"). He says mama and dada, but usually like this: "dadadadadadadadadadada" and not at anyone or anything in particular. He chatters all day long using all kinds of syllables of his own creation.
  • He's got five teeth: two on the bottom and three (almost four) on the top. He loves being able to have opposing teeth so he can really bite things.
  • Speaking of biting, his favorite way to give kisses is to bite your nose. It's cute until he really gets chompy.
  • He still loves his nighttime walks in the stroller. We've got a group of neighborhood girls who have figured out that we walk every night, so they all end up coming with us. On any given night, we have between 2 and 6 girls between the ages of 6 and 10 walking with us. That Deej and his girlfriends. This is getting out of hand already!
  • He loves to swim and to play in the water. He can swim on his back on his own when he's wearing his life jacket. He'll kick his legs and flail his arms and can make it across our entire pool. What the what?
  • He loves everyone. Seriously, everyone. If there is another human around, he assumes they love him and want to talk to him. He's full of smiles and syllables and will let anyone hold him. Seriously, even after the nurse gave him his shots at the doctor's office today, he shook her hand. That kid.
He is just the cutest little bug, and I just can't believe it's been a year. This has been one of the hardest and most rewarding years of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way. DJ has changed our lives and there is no way we'd go back. Being a parent is amazing, and being a parent to this little dude is the greatest blessing my Heavenly Father could have given me. That kid is just incredible.
