So there's this really cool business called
Uptown Art. They are focused mainly out on this end of the country (so sorry, Utah/Idaho friends), and they are fantastic. Seriously, if I had moneys, I'd franchise in Utah. Let me tell you all about them. What they do is painting classes. You sign up for the painting you want to do and show up. That's it! They provide the paint, brushes, canvas, and snacks. If you want drinks, they have those (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) for purchase. And rather than sounding like an infomercial, let me tell you why I know about them.
My friend, Ryan, (not to be confused with my brother, Ryan) and her family are about to move to South Carolina. We decided to get together before they run off, and she suggested we go to Uptown Art. I figured it'd be a blast, so we signed up and went tonight. The class we attended was called "The Funky Peacock." Because I'm "that person," I took pictures of the process. So let's take a look at my funky peacock, shall we?
| We started with an upside down teardrop with lots of colors of spikes coming out of it. |
| Then we added some swirlies. |
| Then we drew some ovals and connected them for a body and a head. And then drew a beak and whatnot. |
| Then we added an eye, drew some crazy hair, and voila - I feel like an artist! Yeah, I painted that. I'm awesome. |
If you happen to live in or be visiting an area with an Uptown Art, seriously, go do it - it was a blast and I can't wait to do it again. I think Deg's even talked into wanting to do it.
What classes or art/craft projects have you done that made you feel totally awesome?
