Deg is spending the week with his family while they attend Grandma's services. Because of work, I wasn't able to go, which is a huge bummer, but such is life. He's been texting me some great pictures, though, and I want to share them with you, my dear readers. I'd share his experiences at the funeral and wake, but they are his and not mine and I don't want to misrepresent them. In general, though, the pervasive feelings seem to be sadness at the loss of Grandma and a deeper closeness to his cousins and brothers. I'm so glad he was able to go, thanks to his fantastic boss who gave him the whole week off and personally bought Deg's ticket. We are blessed.

Deg's brother, Dan, grew a beard for March Madness. I think he had to explain to Deg what "March Madness" was...

One of the pics at the wake. Grandma is the one on the left bottom, sticking her tongue out. Next to her is her mother, followed by her sister. The top row has each of her brothers on the edges and her father in the middle.

She won a recipe contest a newspaper was hosting.

The Mantilia family plot headstone. Each person has an in-ground headstone, but there is a giant one marking the area where the family is.

Deg's older brother, Douglas, passed away when he was 3 months old. They were able to visit his grave while in Connecticut for Grandma's services.
