Corydon, Indiana

Deg and I took a trip to Corydon, Indiana on Memorial Day. Corydon is a cute little town about 30 minutes from where we are, and it's filled with adorable shops and historical sites. So we made a day of it!

This is the town square area. This shot shows the businesses surrounding it. There are a lot of vintage and antique shops with really cool stuff in them.

The town gazebo. Apparently, back in the day, they used to have big band concerts here.  Like The Music Man style.

When there's a statue on a bench, there's pictures. Thanks, Frank O'Bannon!

Not sure if Deg's checking out the big German gun or getting ready for an insane execution.

Another fancy German gun. Deg was pretty pumped about them. I have no idea what they are. Figures.

The capitol building. Corydon used to be the capital of Indiana, so there's some sweet stuff here. (Also, did you notice the correct usage of both types of capitol/capital there? Yeah, I had to look it up.)

The state senate room in the capitol building.

The state supreme court room.

Oh hey! You can totally see our good friend Frank O'Bannon outside the window!

A period newspaper - very cool ads and recorded speeches of the time.

This lovely bell is representative of something I've forgotten in  the last 2 weeks. Sigh. It is, however, ring-able, which is neat.

We went up to the graveyard, where there are stones that go back to the founding of the area. Many stones were  from the Civil War. Corydon was actually the site of a battle during the war. Yeah, this far north.

The Constitution Elm. In the early 1900s it got some kind of tree rot, so they bricked up the trunk in  memoriam.  Because it's wicked hot here during the summer, it was more comfortable to meet outside the capitol building and under a huge tree. This was that tree, and under it is where the Indiana constitution was signed.
