The Flu

No, I don't have it. Sorry to bum you out. But, in things of note I did with my weekend, getting my flu shot is at the top of my list. I ran to my local Walgreens to pick up a few things and out front they had a sign advertising the flu shot. I have gotten the flu shot for many a year now, and was planning on getting it eventually anyway, and there's no time like the present. (Subsequently, my arm feels like someone slugged me really hard.) Plus, Deg's insurance only covers me till the end of the month, and who knows when I'll get my new card from work, so that helped prod me along my way as well. The reasons I get the flu shot are many, and I shall list some of them since I know you're dying to hear them.
  1. The last time I had the flu, I was 21 and threw up 20 times in 10 hours. That was fun and all...
  2. $10 for a flu shot vs. actually having the flu
  3. I work with children and children are, as a general rule, not very hygenic
  4. I'm good at freaking out about things, and if a shot prevents me from freaking out, then pull out the sharps!
I know a lot of people are anti flu shot though. They claim they don't work or that they make you sick just from getting the shot. And they feel they're not safe or adequately tested. I personally have never had a problem with the flu shot and appreciate not getting the flu, but I'm wondering if anyone in my blogland has had a bad experience with the flu shot. So, my call to comments: do you get the flu shot for you (or your kids)? Why or why not? I'd love to hear your opinion on this one.
