I took 2 Tylenol PM's and should be sleeping...

But I'm not. I'm blogging. Go fig. I just finished a book in less than 48 hours, which isn't abnormal for me when I find a good book. And therefore, since it was a good book, I shall tell you all about it and require you all to read it. Let us begin:

Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer

I'm going to explain it to you, you're gonna think it sounds a little weird, then you're gonna go pick it up and love the crap out of it and want to get the next two books in the series (which I will be doing Monday after work).

The book is about a girl named Miranda and her family who live in a small town in Pennsylvania. There's a meteor that hits the moon. This actually happens all the time, like sometimes multiple times a day in real life, but this meteor is huge and can be seen impacting the moon from Earth with only the naked eye. Well the thing is so huge it knocks the moon out of orbit and freakishly close to earth and off of its axis. If you know anything about the moon and the weather, you'll know that pretty much nature's fury breaks loose. Tsunamis ravage all the coasts (Florida is completely lost) and earthquakes and volcanoes start erupting all over the place. And this family is left trying to survive. And that's all I'm giving you of the plot. I will say that it is written in a journal format, which usually I don't like, but it worked for this. There are a few "damn" and "hell" words, but only a handful and I don't mind those at all (thank you, Hall upbringing). But they are there, so if you are bugged by that, well, fair warning. It was much more gripping than I thought it would be, though all the reviews said it would be. It's young adult literature, so that will tell you a bit about how its written and the kind of content you're gonna find (aka no sex and nothing worse than an occasional damn or hell). It's just under 400 pages, and like I said, I raced through it in less than 48 hours. If you've ever read Alas, Babylon (which, by the way, is a fabulous book), it's kind of similar. Anyway, I don't know what else to say about it other than it's a good book and I've been looking for a good book for awhile, so I figure all of you are looking as well. I would feel comfortable letting my 7th graders read this (if I still taught them), but I was still engaged by it. OK that's it. Back to bed to see if the Tylenol PM worked.

PS - Aleisha - The Uglies is sitting on my nightstand, waiting for tomorrow. So excited!
