Insurance Woes

If you've been following along, you'll know I'm not a big fan of the insurance overhaul. However, I shall share some very good reasons why overhaul would be great if done the right way. You could call it a rant, though I prefer to refer to it as documented proof of point.

I have this insurance through my school, and it has caused me a few issues over the years. To be fair, I don't use it often, and most of the time, it works just fine. However, the insurance gods seem to thwart my actions when it comes to the, ahem, woman pills. The first prescription I had worked just fine with my insurance, but I didn't love it, so I decided to switch to something else. And that's when the problems began...

The next prescription I tried was wonderful. I loved it. I won't go into detail (I know some boys read this, so I'll spare you), but it was practically perfect for me. And so it came time to fill my prescription. My pharmacy had to special order in the stuff (apparently, I caught them when they were out of this popular concoction), so my doctor gave me a few samples to get me through. When that was out and I actually had to fill the prescription, the pharmacy had entered the wrong info, so I had to go back to my doctor and get more samples. Argh. As that ran out, I came back to the pharmacy, where they told me it would be $189 to fill my prescription. Read that number again. Let it sink in. And, if you are a Hall cousin, imagine the four-letter words my mind was coming up with in response to that number. Well, I didn't buy it because that's freaking ridiculous.

So... I called my insurance company and I asked them what the deal was. Apparently, it wasn't a "preferred prescription" and it wouldn't be covered. They recommended some other prescriptions, which I then told my doctor about, and she wrote me another prescription for one of those puppies. Meanwhile, my insides are freaking out a bit with all the uncertainty and potential medicational changes. Life went on, and today I went to fill that prescription. And guess what? According to the lady at the pharmacy counter, it's not covered by my insurance either.

WHAT!?!

At this point, you might call me "frustrated," "upset," or even "infuriated." I then called my insurance company yet again to see what the heck is going on with this. She told me this one isn't covered either (apparently, I was lied to, the bastards!) and gave me a new list of preferred meds. So now, I get to go back to my doctor and get yet another prescription so that it's not one bajillion dollars for some stupid little pills.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why we need some sort of overhaul. Or, I am miffed. The end.

Sorry to hear about your woes... once you have a baby you can get an iud and never worry about "women's pills" again. It is such a great thing!
