Poppa Hall

Dad, age 2

Dad, looking debonair on his wedding day

Dad, water skiing

Dad, about to kick butt at the Bonneville Court House

My dad is one of my very best friends. Sure, he's goofy. Then again, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. As 'ole Scooty would say, "It's hard to beat out of 'em what you breed into 'em!" Then again, his goofiness is one of the reasons why I love him so much. He's probably the greatest, most humble person I've ever known. He's had a lot on his plate lately, what with helping his parents and siblings, raising a family, running a business, and trying to build a house. So, in honor of my wonderful, beautiful, silly father, I'm going to do a list of my favorite things about him.

  • The first time he met Deg, he whipped off his belt as if to thwack at someone, giggling the whole while.
  • He and I have matching moles on our necks and our toes.
  • He does this half smile thing when he's trying to pretend to be serious. I've been told I do that, too, but no one can do it quite like him.
  • I've never seen anyone literally wear out a pair of shoes like he can.
  • I'm pretty sure he knows everything about lawn mowing, gardening, small appliance/home/machinery repair, school, studying, boys, hard work, dedication, stupid jokes, and the gospel.
  • He has the biggest testimony of anyone I've ever known.
  • He cares for people with a patience and love that I've never seen before.
  • Next to the word "responsible" in the dictionary is his picture.
  • He knows the corniest jokes in the world, and man, does he think they're funny.
  • He's the best damn skiier on the lake. What lake, you ask? Any lake he's on, that's what lake.
  • He works so hard and never complains about working because he wants to be able to afford his family everything he possibly can for each member to be truly happy and successful.
  • He always has time to talk to his kiddos, even if his kiddos are on their own, doing their own things.
  • He's not afraid to make an enemy, but only if it's by standing up for someone or something worth standing up for.
  • Look at him! He's just so dang cute!
  • He emanates love.
  • I'm pretty sure he has the scriptures memorized.
  • He may be the nag king of the world, but he was going to make sure we all learned responsibility, hard work, and how to nag ourselves, which can be very handy, by the way.
  • He knows how to rock a purple Mr. Rogers cardigan man-sweater.
  • I'm pretty sure that if I was told I knew only one person who was going to heaven, I'd be safe saying it was him. (Here's to hoping it's not just him, though!)
  • He takes interest in what everyone is doing, even if he doesn't understand what that means (aka, he tries to talk to Deg about computer science. Even I've given up on that one!)
If you know my dad, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, well, take the best parts of me, times that by, oh, I don't know, a bajillion, and there you go: Scott R. Hall, the Scooter Man himself. Love you, Daddy!

I so love uncle Scott. He is the best. I am truly grateful for his example. You guys are very lucky to have a rockstar for a Dad.
