Anyway...
My seventh graders are reading The Pearl, and in the book, the main character finds The Pearl of the World, which is the size of a seagull's egg. (Yes, that is an awfully big pearl). Well, these kiddos have no context for pearl diving and finding one in an oyster. So what does the best teacher in the world do? Well, she would buy some oysters with pearls in them and open them with her class so they can see the process of prying one open, what they look like, and how cool it is to see a gleaming pearl on the inside.
I'd just like to point out that I don't know a lot of teachers that would do that for their students. Yeah, yep. Pretty much I am the coolest.
