As the Treadmill Turns: Bring the Pain

As the Treadmill Turns: Bring the Pain

It had been seven hours since the workout began. Jennifer was literally soaked and lying in a puddle of her own sweat. Mike yawned as if this work day long weightlifting session were just pulling him from a state of unconsciousness. He looked condescendingly down at Jennifer, who whimpered in pain as she tried to untangle her arms and legs. He tossed the 250 pound dumbbell back onto the weight rack and grunted in Jennifer’s direction, as if to tell her to suck it up and get off the floor.

Jennifer slowly rolled from the fetal position to her stomach. It hurt to blink. She glanced at the treadmill in front of her – she hadn’t even gotten to that part of the workout yet. She felt as if her femurs had dislocated themselves and shoved themselves through her kneecaps, but knew she couldn’t turn her head to look. She was sure there was no way she’d make it off the floor, let alone get herself home. She tried to open her eyes to see what Mike was doing (all she could here was his grunts) but it was too much for her to handle.

Finally, Mike spoke in real syllables, “Come on, get up. We haven’t even gotten started yet. It’s good for you.” He then grunted some more and hefted around several more weights. He even threw some around Jennifer, as if this would be enough to get her broken body off of the floor and onto the treadmill. She would have cried, but she didn’t have the strength to work her tear ducts.

Will Jennifer leave Mike? Will they stay together for the children? I can hardly bear the suspense!
